Jennifer Morrissey for Grossmont Healthcare District
A Life of Service
Jennifer Morrissey has spent more than 20 years in nonprofit leadership and public service across San Diego County. Since 2018, she has served as Executive Director of the nonprofit Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation, where she manages public-private partnerships, oversees free education programs serving 5,000 local children each year, and initiated a land acquisition program that has, to date, added 108 acres to Mission Trails. Under her leadership, the Foundation was named a California Nonprofit of the Year by Assemblymember Chris Ward.
Healthcare in Her DNA
Jennifer grew up in a medical family. Her father is a heart surgeon with more than five decades of service and her mother trained and worked as a public health nurse. Before she was born, her parents served in the Peace Corps in Tanzania providing medical care and immunizations to the people of the East African country. Her family settled in Stockton, CA where her father established the region’s first heart program to ensure the people of San Joaquin County could receive life-saving care. That foundation shaped Jennifer’s belief that healthcare should be available and accessible to all, that medical organizations should be accountable and centered on the people they serve. Earlier in her career, Jennifer spent four years at Voices for Children, advocating for San Diego’s foster youth.
Rooted in East County
Jennifer has lived in San Diego County since 1987 and in Lemon Grove with her family since 2004. Her love of the outdoors, gardening, and conservation led to her serving on the boards of the San Diego Horticultural Society and the California Native Plant Society, and has been an active volunteer in her children's schools. Jennifer is currently a Planning Commissioner for the City of Lemon Grove. She and her husband Douglas have two children.
